United States

• Allergy Alert: J Bar B Foods (Waelder, TX) recalls Eckrich Smoked Sausage Made with Pork and Beef (11-lb boxes; Est 7066; Sell by March 26, 2012 or later), due to the presence of undeclared whey and casein. The smoked sausages were produced beginning on January 16, 2012 and sent to distribution centers in Dallas (TX) and Indianapolis (IN) for institutional use.
• Allergy Alert: Strong America Ltd. recalls Golden Smell brand Dried Potato (6 oz plastic bags; Product of China; Sold in New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania), due to the presence of undeclared sulfites.
• FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns J.M. Smucker, LLC that a January 2012 inspection of the company’s Ripon, Wisconsin facility determined that the firm’s failure to comply with certain regulations relating to the processing of acidified food products renders the company’s Pumpkin Butter adulterated within the meaning of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
• FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Crystal Bay Seafoods, Inc. (Green Bay, WI) that a February 2012 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation, and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.
• FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Sir Pizza of Tennessee, Inc. (Murfreesboro, TN) that a January 2012 inspection of the company’s pizza restaurant commissary revealed serious violations of FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements in Manufacturing, Packing, or Holding Human Food.
• FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Dale’s LLC (Brighton, CO) that a November 2011 inspection of the company’s alligator processing facility revealed violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) regulation, and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.
• FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Nu Garden, LLC (Taos, NM) that a December 2011 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility revealed violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) regulation, and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.
• FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Winn Dixie Logistics, Inc. (Miami, FL) that a January 2012 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation, and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulation for foods.

Canada

• Allergy Alert: Euro Mediterranean Foods recalls Euro Mediterranean Foods Smoked Salmon Spread (227g; All date/lot codes; UPC 2), due to the presence of undeclared egg. The recalled spread was distributed in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario.
• Allergy Alert: Raw Elements Inc. recalls Sunwarrior Warrior Blend Raw Protein, Plant-based (1 kg; All lot codes; UPC 9), due to the presence of undeclared tree nuts. The recalled product was distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
• Food Safety Recall: Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent Inc. recalls Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent Fromage au Lait Cru à Pâte Molle Affiné en Surface (1 kg; Codes 17 12 11, 18 12 11, 01 01 12, 02 01 12, 07 01 12, 08 01 12, 14 01 12, 15 01 12, 20 01 12, and 22 01 12), due to contamination with Staphylococcus aureus. The recalled product was distributed to a warehouse in Quebec.
• Food Recall: Ghaleb Investments Inc. recalls Montana Spinach (400g; Prod. date 12/2011; Best before 12/2013; UPC 6 222000 401449), due to microbiological spoilage.

Europe

• Food Safety Recall (Greece): Chris Spiliopoulos & Co recalls several food products manufactured by the Polish comapny Iglotex SA, because the products contain illegally manufactured egg powder. Please refer to the recall notice for details.
• Veterinary Medicins Safety Recall (Spain): Laboratorio Ovejero, S.A. recalls all outstanding products, due to quality defects discovered during a GMP inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for a list of affected products.
• Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0459): Bacillus cereus in Six Fortune brand chili marinated tofu in glass jars from Taiwan, via the Netherlands; distributed to Germany.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

• Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating two cases of ciguatoxin poisoning affecting five people who consumed coral reef fish.
• Outbreak Alert (Philippines): A 6-month old baby is dead and 29 other people on Polilio Island, Quezon, have been hospitalized with diarrhea.

Australia and New Zealand

• Allergy Alert (Australia): Woolworths Ltd recalls Cookies with Mars (180g four-pack; Best before 31.MAR.12), due to the presence of undeclared peanuts. The recalled product was sold only at Hogans Corner Safeway, Hoppers Crossing, VIC.
